You are cordially invited to attend the next meeting of the Houston-Galveston Regional PIO Network scheduled for 10 a.m., on Thursday, March 15, 2018.

 

LOCATION

PIO Network meetings are hosted by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Houston District Office located at 7600 Washington Avenue (not Street) in Houston, TX. Free parking is available in the parking garage adjacent to the TxDOT building.

 

CHECK-IN

You must check-in at the visitor registration desk in the lobby. We will provide TxDOT Security with our RSVP List which will speed up your check-in process, so please RSVP below to get your name on the RSVP list.

 

MEETING ROOM

This meeting is scheduled in the Auditorium located on the TxDOT first floor. See the signage in the lobby and enter the double doors on the right side of the Lobby.

2045 Regional Transportation Plan (2045 RTP)

Isaac Perez with the Houston-Galveston Area Council will present information on the 2045 Regional Transportation Plan. The 2045 RTP is a long-range transportation plan that looks at future transportation needs and funding priorities.

 

Ethics in communications and the Texas Public Information Act

Panelists include:

Lessons learned from Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey was a devastating storm to our region. With endless days of constant rain and floods, communicating with the public was imperative. What challenges did the counties, city, Red Cross, National Weather Service and Houston ISD face? Panelists will discuss the good, the bad and the ugly in communicating and planning before, during and after Hurricane Harvey.

 

Panelists scheduled to participate include:

  • Social media/communications case studies and planning discussions

o  Global ransomware incident – Review of social media / communication themes and observations from the recent event.

o  Toxic chemical leak and evacuation – Kansas incident. We’ll review how the community and media responded, and how social media filled in the gaps.

 

  • Writing for crisis – a hands-on training exercise

o  Using a cyber/malware attack scenario, we’ll discuss strategies for writing good statements under pressure.

 

  • Developing your entity’s crisis communications plan

o  This will be a hands-on planning session during which we will walk through some planning guides and discuss best practices for building your own crisis communications plan.

 

And, time permitting, we’ll also look at: 

 

  • A stress test of the Jetty system
